Crowd funding is not a new phenomenon. Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, and hundreds of other aspiring start ups have utilized the masses on the web to help fund projects. These sites harness lots of people to all contribute to raise a ton of capital for one big project. But what about all those projects that are ongoing, the content creators, the bloggers. How do they utilize the crowd? Patreon tackled this problem and created a platform for content creators to be able to be “tipped” for their content creation. Users contribute per item of content created and can specify a maximum amount to contribute per month. Perks are given based on a tiered system that can even result in corporate sponsorship of the content.
